Ilog sa Surigao Del Sur may Kakaibang Nilalang raw Silang Nakikita na Talagang Nakakatakot

In the Philippines, you can hardly find a body water that hasn't been polluted by plastics, bottles, and other human wastes. The government and environmentalists have long been trying to find a solution to clean up these bodies of waters, to little avail.

That's why it's really amazing how the Barobo River in Surigao del Sur has remained pristine-- as if pollution is no match to it! Scientists are still trying to come up with an explanation to this, but residents in the Surigao village believe they know why.

They say-- humans cannot protect bodies of water, but mystical entities surely can!

It's true-- residents believe that a merman (siyokoy in the local language) resides in the waters, keeping it clean, clear, and abundant. One resident named Margarita Gonzalez claimed she even had a personal encounter with the merman one day, while she was washing clothes in the river!

She said she spotted something that looked like a cat underneath the surface of the water. She said it was impossible for an actual cat to be there, so she reckoned that it must be the famed siyokoy.

Another resident named Bong even claimed that their housekeeper had romantic encounters with the otherworldly being! He said they would often meet in the river itself!

Unfortunately, the housekeeper Lanie is no longer around to confirm these accounts of her love story with a merman. But one of Bong's workers insist that the merman even got back at him for cutting down a tree near the river!

He says the merman preferred to hang out by that tree, so he hexed the man who cut down the three! Almost immediately after the deed, the man started to lose his mind.

There are many other people who confirmed that the river's heavenly beauty is because of the merman's protection, but it's up to you if you would believe any of this:
