We've heard countless stories of showbiz actors going rogue and losing all sense of direction in life. This makes the life story of Don Laurel an amazing story of hope and success.

If his name rings a bell but you just can't remember what he looks like or what his previous projects were here in the Philippines, here'a s bit of a refresher:

Don Laurel is one of the rosy careers launched by Star Magic. His first TV appearance was in the then-popular show Gimik, which aired in 1996 and starred big names like Patrick Garcia, Judy Ann Santos, and Rico Yan, among others. He also starred in the big screen, including acclaimed films like 'Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan' and 'Batang PX.'

He also played important roles in '90s classic shows like 'Mula sa Puso' and 'Saan ka Man Naroroon.'

It seems Don was on his way to incredible stardom. However, shortly after appearing in his project, 'Jologs,' the actor left the limelight, much to the dismay of his fans. But surely, they would be delighted to find out that he actually left for Toronto, Canada, to follow a childhood dream.

'I have always wanted to be a police officer," he said in a recent interview with CBC Toronto.

“This is the best job in the world. What I play on TV is make-believe. When the camera stops rolling, that’s it. As an officer, this is a front-row seat to real life.”

Don has actually been in service with the Toronto Police Service 32 Division for nine years now!

As if that isn't impressive enough, the former Kapamilya star also revealed that he has taken on a really important job in Canada: holding information sessions with immigrants to help them transition into their new country well. He discusses with them the do's and don'ts in Canada-- to make sure he never has to cite them for any misdemeanors!

The best part of it all? Don Laurel says it's when Filipinos call and specifically ask to talk to him!

“Sometimes I do get a lot of calls into the station saying ‘Oh is officer Laurel available today? I want to speak to him, I want to tell him something.’ I think when the Filipinos call and look for me it’s good as well. That means they trust me,” Don said.
