The Philippine rural scene is like nothing you've ever encountered before. Stories of the mystic abound, some more believable than others. One of the most famous urban legends in this country is about the "kulam" or "barang."

This is the story of a woman from Butuan, Southern Philippines. She is said to be throwing up strange things-- like frogs and insects!

Surely, if you tell any Filipino elder about her story, they'd immediately conclude that the girl is a victim of "barang." Simply put, "barang" is the dark craft of casting negative spells on a person you hate or someone who have wronged you, to cause them pain, inconvenience, and even medical conditions.

A quack doctor however, could fix anyone who has been the object of "barang." That's why when this woman started vomiting toads and insects, they immediately summoned one.

The quack doctor told the girl and her family that she wasn't the real target of the "barang." Apparently, it was the woman's husband, only he was protected by his religious tattoos, which repelled the negative incantations!

Now, the woman bore the brunt of the mangbabarang's ire. She can't seem to shake off the power of the mambabarang, so she sought help.

Since the Butuanon woman revealed all of this in the TV show Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, they had a little bit of help from Jessica's staff.

They got the show's resident paranormal expert on board to get to the bottom of the girl's condition. After placing surveillance camera on the woman's house, the expert became less and less convinced that the girl was actually targeted by dark forces!

It could be another figment of imagination, or simply a hoax. Well, we'll leave you to decide which one is it for yourself!
