It's no secret that in China, marriage is a very big deal. This is especially the case for women. Chinese people believe that women need to marry young or not at all. Therefore, Chinese women are pressured by the society to live up to that standard.

That's why this Chinese father was so desperate to have his daughter married so he came up with an expensive solution!

He tried to offer money in exchange for any man to marry his daughter.

This "loving" father in question is businessman, Cecil Chai. He initially offered to pay $60 million or over 3 billion pesos. That prompted more than 20,000 suitors at their doorstep.

When that plan failed, the rich businessman upped the ante to $120 million! That's more than 6 billion pesos today!

However, in a striking turn of events, Gigi  married her lesbian wife, Sean Eav in 2012. Cecil Chai obviously opposed this pairing.

But Gigi, very much in love, wrote an open letter to his father saying:

"As your daughter, I would want nothing more than to make you happy. But in terms of relationships, your expectations of me and the reality of who I am are not coherent."

You really can't teach love. Against all odds, Gigi and Sean are still happily married. We just wish that one day, Gigi's father will be able to accept that fact.

At the end of the day, love wins.
